Lisbon, Portugal. Augusta, an unemployed Brazilian immigrant and aspiring painter, gets by on luck — and a bit of gambling — while pretending her job-hunting is actually productive. Kátia, also Brazilian but with a Portuguese accent, works as a receptionist at a funeral home, finding solace in her passion for collecting antiques and in her prayers to make rent.

On a bright, sunny morning, the friends prepare for a routine meeting with their landlord, Mr. Jair. But their plans take an unexpected turn when Kátia discovers that Augusta has spent the rent money on bingo. Before they can fix the situation, Mr. Jair’s arrival triggers catastrophe — one of Kátia’s 16th-century collectible pistols fires, thanks to a lucky free bullet included in a promotional offer, turning misfortune into an unforgettable moment of chaos.
